The major attention was on the 5th Round of the Ben Smith Memorial Cup, the League’s Premier Cup competition. Only one team from Division 1 made it through to the last four to guarantee that there will be at least one team from outside the top Division contesting the Final on May Day Bank holiday morning. That team was Dickleburgh who squeezed home by the odd goal of three against Thetford Rovers Res. The other 1st Division sides were all beaten. Bradenham Wanderers Res. beat Narborough 3-1 at home while Northwold S&SC accounted for Swaffham Town A, courtesy of 5-3 away win. In a replayed 4th Round match, Sporle knocked out Gressenhall by the odd goal of three and will now entertain West End in the remaining 5th Round match.
In the 2nd Round of the Dick Davey Ambulance Cup, there was only one home winner. Dereham Town A achieved that success with a 2-1 win against Cockers. Teams from Division 1 did better in this competition with Shipdham winning 3-1 at Castle Acre Swifts and Hingham Athletic beating Rockland Utd. 2-0. There was one 2nd Division winner with Morley Village beating Hingham Athletic Res. 6-0. Necton Res. came from 4-0 down to take their tie with Bawdeswell to a penalty competition but Bawdeswell eventually came out on top, winning the penalty competition 3-2. The other three successes were for Division 4 teams with them all knocking out teams from higher Divisions. Thurton & Ashby won by the only goal of the game at Hethersett Athletic, Splitz Utd. beat Hindolveston 4-2 and Stoke Ferry won by the odd goal of nine at Shropham Utd.
There was just one match in Division 1 which 2nd placed Bridgham Utd. won, beating Cranworth by the only goal of the game.
The Division 2 leaders Tacolneston opened up a six point gap at the top with an important 2-1 home win over Nostro. Bunwell beat bottom team Saham Toney Res. 5-0 to move up to 4th and Wymondham Town A won 2-0 at West End.
The one match in Division 3 saw Wendling achieve a welcome victory at Great Cressingham by the odd goal of five.
In Division 4, Scarning Utd. beat Beetley Utd. 2-1 to move out of the bottom two places and Breckland Wanderers and Narborough Res. took a point each from a 2-2 draw.
